A new blog is always a difficult concept for anyone to get to the bottom of. On the one hand, it is difficult not to focus on readers and how to get them. On the other hand, maybe all that is needed is to write decent prose about the things that interest me. Perhaps a readership will simply appear out of nowhere. Nevertheless, it is not so easy to write words and then post them out into the ether without any knowledge of whether they shall be read. The only way to justify having written something is to know that somebody out there has read and enjoyed it.
Most of the blogs I read have a clear and definite focus, and a voice which they stick to at all costs. The most drab and depressing blogs are the ‘online diaries’, detailing whatever the blogger is up to at the time. Often, it’s enough to make one despair at the utterly vacuous nature of other people’s lives. I already have a blog like this, incidentally, called The Kozmic Bubble. It’s a Tumblelog where I put pictures of my daughter and little details about what I’ve been up to recently largely for my family and friends, though few actually ever check it, such is the nature of these things.
So, I’m starting this new blog with a single and simple purpose: This will be a somewhere to vent my thoughts and ideas, allowing me to enjoy writing without the pressure of having to write something amazing.
That is, of course, not to say that I shan’t be writing amazing things.
My plan is simple, and I have defined my target audience: I want to write to people who are interested in the same things that I am interested in. Expect to read here about technology, politics (mainly of the UK variety, but I’m easy) and possibly a little about parenting, which I consider to be favoured hobbies of mine. Music and Cinema may also come up - from this point onwards, if I feel a desperate need to write a full review of the new Fratellis album, or an essay on the contribution made by Tom Hanks to the field of character acting, this will be the place to which I come.
The last point to make, I feel, may be the most interesting: it is extremely unlikely that anybody will stumble across this new blog by accident while there is only this one post on it. In other words, if you’re reading this you do so with the knowledge of what I have written in later posts - knowledge of the articles I haven’t written yet. And so it is to you, dear reader of the future, to determine whether my plan of action as set out in this maiden posting has in fact been fulfilled.
So here I leave my first post, with hope for the future. Hopefully there’ll be very little of this introspective blogging-about-blogging stuff. See you next time.
Stu.

I stumbled upon it, and with only one post to speak of
Found it on wefeelfine.org, which I found through Pangea Day. Enjoy both of those things, if you like. And of course, best of luck with your new site.
