So, did these words, from the mouth of Lynne Featherstone on the BBC coverage of the Crewe and Nantwich by-election (who has since described Gordon Brown as a ‘Nervous Ninny’), sum up Labour’s campaign? Or was it rumbustious and exuberant campaign, as Labour’s Chris Bryant claimed?
Say what you like about the BBC, they don’t shy away from eloquent conversation at 2 o’clock in the morning…
Awaiting the results of the count now (while also busy with other work, and writing yet another a new blog post)…
UPDATE:
Well, it’s all over bar the analysis. Tories take 49% of the vote, a swing of 17.6% and a majority of 7860.
Turns out that Edward Timpson is extremely dull, and Tamsin Dunwoody is completely insane – thanking candidates “who ran against me”. Since when was she MP for Crewe & Nantwich? Weird.

Timpson’s a barrister, what do you expect, Hawaiian shirt and maracas? He looked shell-shocked all the way through the campaign, being escorted by the entire senior shadow front bench.
Selected in July, to cut his teeth on a likely snap election, no-one could have foreseen the circumstances that led to this victory. How envious the Tory A-listers must be!
Good luck to him. And at last, Eric Pickles is getting due acknowledgement for all his hard work during the dark years.
Did I imagine Featherstone say that she thought Henley was winnable for the LibDems? Huh? Mind you, the timing of that by-election will be of concern for Gordon, since it’s out of his hands. How frustrating for a control freak.
