As some of us may have predicted might happen, David Davis is facing what may become the most ridiculous by-election history has ever recorded. It has already broken the record for the largest number of candidates, coming in at 26. Jonathan Isaby has the complete list of candidates, including no fewer than 14 independents, as well as hopefuls from such outlandish parties as ‘The New Party’, ‘Church of the Militant Elvis Party’, ‘Miss Great Britain Party’ and ‘Make Politicians History’. The Official Monster Raving Loony Party will naturally also be there, as will the Green Party (I was going to make a joke, but the party is already enough of one).

One named party stands alone for silliness, though, as it appears to be named after an oxymoron. Whoever heard of the ‘Socialist Equality Party’?
