The Queen has been visiting Google’s UK Headquarters today, hence the rather excellent logo they had on display.

What really caught my attention though, in the BBC article on the Queen’s visit, was this paragraph concerning the Queen’s previous experience with modern communications technology:

Last Christmas, the Queen launched a dedicated royal channel on YouTube which now contains 54 royal videos and has been visited by 1.6m people. She had first sent an e-mail when she visited an army base in 1976, according to Buckingham Palace, and in 1997 launched the official royal website.

1976. Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II has been sending emails since nearly a decade before I was born. John McCain (who has never sent an email) needs to get a grip and move into the world of today.

P.S. As a topical aside, I believe it was this video that gave her majesty a fit of the giggles. It certainly did me.
