Fraser Nelson on Her Majesty’s demeanour while reading her speech:
I do feel for Her Majesty. This ordeal should be foisted on her only after an election. Having to read out the New Labour newspeak was bad enough, but the Brownian argot is dreadful. I do love the way she did it without any feeling – with a wearisome look in her eye – and the way Prince Philip was caught on camera apparently joking about throwing the speech in the bin.
I didn’t watch the Speech myself – some of us have work to do, after all – but I’m not sure I want to. I feel sorry for Her Majesty, too – it’s demeaning to the Crown for her to be forced to read out Labour’s lies like some automaton, when she’s supposed to be our Head of State.
Let’s put this dreary couple of weeks behind us and get on with the job of forcing the Government to call a General Election.
Still watching the Queen’s Speech Debate, though most seems to be about the Damian Green affair. Brown is getting more ticked off as he is being pressed; he is also speaking faster and faster as if he doesn’t want to be there. Cleggy still to squeak.
I’m measuring Gordon’s lividity with his choice of tie – getting ever closer.
PS The Queen is Her Majesty, never HRH, gawd bless ‘er.
