Now scientists have begun to examine how the city affects the brain, and the results are chastening. Just being in an urban environment, they have found, impairs our basic mental processes. After spending a few minutes on a crowded city street, the brain is less able to hold things in memory, and suffers from reduced self-control. While it’s long been recognized that city life is exhausting — that’s why Picasso left Paris — this new research suggests that cities actually dull our thinking, sometimes dramatically so.
I want to live in the countryside again.
Nah, the countryside stinks! All those animals and plants filling the air with methane and pollen!!
Interesting juxtaposition of this and the previous post.
Blue Eyes, Stu speaks the truth about getting a decent night’s sleep. The lack of light and noise pollution helps too.
I did enjoy most of my time living in a city, due mainly to being there in my younger years (party animal!)but I would never choose to return to one now.
How come us urban folk fall asleep when we submerge ourselves country air then?
The city keeps me sane.
