Paul Waugh is upset that Obama hasn’t really thought through his gift to Gordon Brown:

So Gordon goes to all that trouble of getting an historic pen holder carved from the oak timbers of a Victorian anti-slavery ship. Carefully chosen and months in the preparation, the pen was finally handed over in Washington when the men met this week.

And what does Obama give him in return? A DVD collection of 25 classic American films.

To me, that sounds like a great gift. I’d love to be given movies by Obama! Particularly considering, as mentioned earlier, we’ve not exactly been helping out the USA recently – and Brown has been intent on blaming them for the troubles of our economy.

It’s fairly easy to imagine the classic American films – Die Hard, naturally. Pulp Fiction, of course. It did make me wonder, though – if the British were to return the favour, what classic British movies would we send to Obama?

With respect to the memory of Humphrey Lyttleton, I thought we could have a quick round of…

Obama’s British Film Club

Unfortunately, Samantha has to nip out now, as she’s off to see her new American gentleman friend. He’s a cattle trader, and as Samantha is keen to buy a prime example, she’s been saving up. Excitingly, she’ll soon be in a position to receive her first Texas Longhorn.

So while she’s away with that, to get us started here’s a few of my own meagre contributions:

  • Monty Python’s The Life of Barack
  • Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Bushes
  • Get Clinton
