If you’re not a fan of blogging-on-blogging, general vanity/narcissism or self-congratulatory rubbish, you may promptly skip ahead to the bit about the Penguin Warfare. Great headline though, right?

Moving On Up

I’m not entirely certain what it means, and until today I had never heard of the site, but I felt rather chuffed to have received an email from the good people at Wikio.co.uk to inform me that “Sharpe’s Opinion just entered at number 525 in our General rankings”. A quick perusal round their site suggests that they are some kind of news aggregation site, and I must admit I was rather surprised to have been included in their rankings at all – okay I link to quite a few news articles and offer comment, etc., but I’ve never really seen this as a news blog. I try and stick to my mandate and offer ‘Opinion’.

It’s in the title, you see.

I suppose that’s worth making clear, really, because Sunny Houndal and the good people at Liberal Conspiracy didn’t seem to quite figure that one out earlier on this month, and started treating my words like I made the claim to have done some research or be a bastion of knowledge and fact. I haven’t. I’m not. I actually write about Home Improvements for my day job.

Anyway, completely meaningless blog rating systems aside I have been encouraged by the level of activity, comment and interest this blog has been gathering recently and would just like to extend a warm thankyou to all of you lovely people who read. I had more unique visitors (577 according to Google Analytics) in February than I’ve had in any previous month, and between March 1st and today (that’s just 14 days) I’ve had nearly as many (482) again, so March is looking like it’s going to be a record smashing month for this blog.

So, thanks.

Change is in the Air

Actually, it isn’t. I was going to announce moving my blog to a new address. Since I have a whole bunch of projects I’m involved in right now, I figured that stuartsharpe.co.uk should really become more of a landing page, since Sharpe’s Opinion is just one of the many things that I do and write. I still might switch address eventually, but I’m not so certain about it any more. It would probably be a hassle, after all, and everyone would have to update their links and feeds and stuff.

So I’ll probably keep the blog right where it is and make a new address for my ‘portfolio/business card’ site. Or have it in a subdirectory or a subdomain. Or something.

I’m also probably going to stick with the current design and make gradual improvements to it. Seems a lot easier than starting over, if I’m honest. Every few days I seem to add or update something. One day it might actually be done!1

The War On Penguins

In case you missed it, I managed to raise a truly stunning Zero Pounds (£0) yesterday for Comic Relief, and all it took was to go to war against the vicious armies of the Penguin hordes.

I’m not too proud to admit I personally found the whole thing highly amusing. Snide remarks from others were also appreciated.

Who said Twitter was completely pointless and frivolous, eh! Of course it has a serious use: fighting penguins couldn’t be more serious2. They had it coming. Just look at them3:

Penguins, as featured in the movie Madagascar

Anyway, if you enjoyed the penguin warfare, you can of course donate money to Comic Relief using their online donation putter-inner thingumybob. Further updates concerning the Penguin war have been suspended pending an investigation into reports of various flightless birds picketing the tortoises’ victory march through Edinburgh Zoo.

Cake

Anyway, must dash – The girls have baked a cake and need somebody to sample it.

In case I don’t see you, good afternoon, good evening and good night.

  1. Who exactly am I trying to fool? []
  2. They’ve been too cute for too long, after all []
  3. Image is from the film Madagascar and I assume it’ll have some copyright on it, but I don’t know who owns it and I don’t really care too much. Get over it. []
