The difference will be that Cameron will criticised from the “right” rather than from the side of Her Maj’s Opposition. Either we will see the emergence of competent leftist bloggers like Neil Clark or we will see the intellectual opposition in this country being libertarian (& if the Tories win big then Cameron may find the libertarians on his own back benches much more difficult to deal with than the official Opposition).

Considering Cameron’s apparent enthusiasm for windmillery I certainly hope so.

You know what really pisses me off ? No? Its seeing slimy suck ups from Liberal Conspiracy who operate a Nazi comments policy appear on Libertarian blogs as if they were not in fact statist authoritarians in statist authoritarian clothing .
I am a commited Conservative and I also intend making plenty of trouble for Cameron when and if he gets the reins.

My view is different from that of Blue Eyes. I like a mixture of original blogging & links. In my view Andrew Sullivan is the exemplar of this style.

That is why I like the sidebar, such as I have. I know I hardly ever blog myself. But if someone followed my link, decided it was rubbish, but was turned onto a new blog by a link of mine then I’d right be happy.

Of course, you’d still have a lot of control if you only gave links rather than posts of your own because as the editor you decide which links to include

I myself generally use Twitter for such links. It really does please me that you & others have sometimes clicked on my links. It makes me feel like I’m a trusted source & people know I’m going to link to something worthwhile!

I suppose my point is not to waver from the approach you’re currently using.

DK I wrote a quick follow-up post to your follow-up post, because your ‘Always in Opposition’ point is absolutely right. Of course, then I looked back here and Patently had said much the same thing already!

Charlotte, yes it’s going quite well at the moment. I assume I’m just writing stuff people are interested to read. I don’t know when that started happening! After transcribing that Dan Hannan speech I got a massive boost in traffic.

Blue Eyes, I prefer it when it’s my original writing, too, but I’m too busy too often to write all the time like I used to. Also, I think my links are normally interesting, and they keep the momentum up.

I could always quit my day job, I suppose

Oh – and I don’t think Guido should be criticised for the “Is Brown Bonkers” posts. If you watch Brown with an assumption that he is speaking truthfully, honestly, and with belief in what he is saying, then something does not fit.

Guido is simply pointing at the Emperor’s clothes. Someone has to.

An effective Opposition is as important for the country as an effective Government. For much of Labour’s reign, the Conservatives lost their ability to do this – aided and abetted by Labour’s shameful avoidance of parliamentary scrutiny.

Bloggers have come forward to fill this gap; it is as simple as that. So (if/)when Cameron is PM, he should expect the same. It would not surprise me to see “right-wing” bloggers criticise him; what surprises me is the current fawning nature of the left-wing blogs.

Spot on, Stuart. The point is that both Guido and I (and many other bloggers) are libertarians — not Tories.

Guido leans more towards the Tory Party than I do (he’s one of the “let’s reform it from within” school), but neither of us will be giving Cameron an easy ride.

I think that the left-leaning blogs will be surprised; they tend to say, “well, it’s much easier when you are in opposition to the government” but this is to entirely miss the point: libertarians are ALWAYS in opposition to the government.

Another good blog. Guido must be dependent on his sources to provide evidence to back up his stories. However, rather uniquely, it appears Guido does not need to curry favour with politicians. Having handled recent events so professionally, his influence will continue to increase as disillusioned politicians realise he is the reliable avenue to vent their frustrations. Thank goodness power corrupts and the damage of sleaze is cumulative. Seemingly beholden to noone, I say ‘Well Done, Guido.’
