Only Their Successors Can Redeem Them
Raedwald is spot on concerning our ‘feeble’ parliament and ‘weak’ Government, in particular (emphasis mine):
Whilst there is a delicious schadenfreude in watching the painful public embarrassment of so many pompous, conceited and narcissistic politicians, this is actually damaging to us all. The current incumbents of the House can never redeem themselves – only their successors can do that. But they can act now to remove the Speaker, who personifies all the sleaze, corruption, weakness and incompetence that taints this Parliament.
I think the only way our current electoral system could possibly redeem itself is for a huge amount of current members from every party to lose their seats at the next election. Can you say ‘negative campaigning’?
P.S. ConservativeHome are talking about giving grassroots Tories the ability to deselect questionable MPs at the next election – that would be a start, yes.
and now without typos:
Slow down abit guys. Some MPs have acquitted themselves very well with none, or negligible, expenses claims – some 20 or so out of 646 MPs?
Now, is this because these ones are dopey and do not know how to work a system,
or is it because they were too busy doing the work they were elected to do,
or do they indeed have some integrity?
I suggest they do not have successors immediately. The rest, yes!
“But they can act now to remove the Speaker…”
And it appears that some of the villagers are lobbying for him to be thrown in the Wicker Man to appease the angry gods and restore prosperity once again.
It won’t do. We need a Wicker House of Commons. They should all go.
