We should take a moment to talk about you.

Yes, you. No, not those guys, you.

Seriously. I don’t know why you’re sat there thinking ‘he can’t mean me‘. I do. I mean you.

You. Are. Great.

I mean it. You’re the best. I don’t know whether anybody else has told you this recently – I expect you get it a lot – but you really are something else. You’re special.

Your very existence is a miracle. You are unique, an individual. What’s more, you’re not just ‘another person’, are you. You’re so much more than that. You don’t just follow the herd and see where they take you. You make your own decisions, you form your own opinions. You think for yourself – and even when other people disagree with you, they can never take that away from you.

Okay, so sometimes even you and I disagree – but if I’m honest, I know, in my heart of hearts, that you probably have the upper hand when that happens. And even when I’m sure I’m right, you challenge me to think more about what I’m saying. I have so much respect for you for that. Sometimes, I can’t believe how lucky I am to have come across you.

There are occasions, I know, when some other people don’t really show their appreciation of you. It happens, and it can really hurt. Remember, though, that they are just struggling with their own troubles, just as you sometimes have to struggle with yours. They don’t really mean it, so don’t let them make you forget just how wonderful you really are. Remember those of us out here who do appreciate you. Those of us who recognise your talents and understand your problems. Remember that the only opinion of you that really matters, in the end, is your own.

You – and I mean you, you know who you are – are really great. And I’m really, honestly, not just saying that because you’re going to vote for Sharpe’s Opinion in the 2009 Total Politics Best Blog Poll. I’m not.

You really are awesome. So thank you.
