Say WHAT now? How come I haven’t heard anything about this from the blogosphere? Is it real?!
Asylum seekers are to be subjected to DNA tests in an attempt to confirm their true nationalities, the Observer can reveal. The UK Borders Agency believes this will help limit bogus asylum claims made by people arriving in the UK and pretending to have fled war zones so they cannot be deported. […]
The Borders Agency has been concerned for some time that Kenyans pass themselves off as Somalis in the hope of gaining asylum. But the project could be expanded to other nationalities if successful, a Home Office spokeswoman confirmed.
Forgive me if I’m wrong here, but using someone’s DNA to decide whether they’re from one country or another… That’s, ermm, racial discrimination, isn’t it?
And, well, gosh darn it, I thought here in Britain we thought racism was a bad thing, right?
I think someone needs to explain this to me, nice and slowly, because I’m really struggling to keep up.
UPDATE: More here and especially here
Bloody hell.
Anyway, is this even fair? Why couldn’t a Kenyan have got caught up in Somalia?
******* gobsmacked.
I knew this country treated refugees badly but this is ridiculous.
It scales new heights of tabloid feeding idiocy.
It’s like they don’t realise the line drawn between Somalia and Kenya is imaginary!
It’s like they’ve forgotten our part in helping to carve up Africa!
It’s almost as though it’s a cheap publicity stunt… aimed at victimising the weakest in society
Oh sorry, didn’t realise this was a family place. Insert “Flipping.” I’m flipping incensed I can tell you.
Anyone who thinks Labour hasn’t lost it, explain please.
If anything justifies a letter to your MP, it is this.
It was in the blogosphere, I saw it on reddit and blogged it yesterday morning : http://liberalprovocateur.vox.com/library/post/uk-border-agency-what-they-dont-show-you-on-tv.html, and that would have been picked up on http://libdemblogs.co.uk .
I’m not sure why the press and Shadow Home / Justice ministers haven’t made this a big issue though.
Only three words spring to mind: WTF?
Matt
